Ming vs not so flash Gordon
September 18, 2007
Oh dear and I thought that silly season had ended. But no the Lib Dems have been having a lovely time in Brighton and instead of having an ice-cream and inhaling some refreshing sea air they’ve been inhaling something completely different. Well not inhaling exactly. They’ve decided that there should be no petrol driven cars by 2040. Actually that’s not so silly seeing as there probably won’t be any petrol to put in them by then anyway.
Actually what is daft is that they’ve gone all zero-carbon which is a nonsense in itself. To quote Auntie:
Some of the other key proposals in the Liberal Democrats’ Zero Carbon Britain plan are:
Introduce green mortgages to encourage more environmentally friendly homes
Charging lorries to use the UK’s roads in order to double rail investment, possibly creating a high speed line running north to south
Boosting spending on flood defences to respond to climate change
Encouraging microgeneration by paying a higher rate to producers who export energy to the National Grid
Creating a climate change levy of £10 on domestic flights
Nope – can’t see any of it working. It’s like drinking Diet Coke to loose weight. Pointless.
